A man died Monday afternoon after getting run over by a Red Line train at JFK/UMass station, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.

The incident was reported at 2:37 p.m., Pesaturo said. Boston fire responded and recovered the body of the victim, who was approximately 50 to 60 years old, from the northbound track of the Braintree platform before 4 p.m.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s Office and Transit Police are investigating what led to the man’s death. Foul play isn’t suspected, police said.

Regular Red Line service resumed around 4:30, but the MBTA warned passengers to expect “severe residual delays.’’
