State trooper injures leg when shotgun discharges
A Massachusetts State Police trooper was transporting his department-issued shotgun from his old cruiser to his new one Tuesday when the firearm discharged, striking him in the leg, according to police.
The trooper, a sergeant who has not been named, suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his leg, police said. He was taken by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he is undergoing treatment.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates it was an “accidental discharge.’’
The incident occurred shortly before noon at the department’s Emergency Vehicle Operations Center in Ayer.
