Paying the price for using others’ words: “A top Wheelock College administrator who acknowledged using passages written by others — including Harvard University president Drew Faust — in a welcome letter to faculty last month has resigned, the school announced Monday.
Shirley Malone-Fenner stepped down from her post as interim vice president for academic affairs effective immediately, Wheelock’s president said in an e-mail to faculty and staff.’’ (The Boston Globe)
Uprooted tree reveals 1,000-year-old skeleton “Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a young man who suffered a violent death almost a millennium ago at Collooney, Co Sligo.
The teenager had two stab wounds to the chest and one to his left hand, presumably from trying to ward off his attacker.
The skeletal remains were found among the roots of a massive beech tree which toppled over after more than 200 years. (The Irish Times)
Shaughnessy: Despite hot start, rest of AFC East isn’t good “Sorry, people. I’m not buying any of it. The AFC East is still Gladys Knight and the Pips, and the Patriots are Gladys Knight. By the time we get to the end of December, the Patriots will be contemplating which players to rest as they prepare for their annual first-round playoff bye and second-round game at Gillette Stadium.’’ (The Boston Globe)
Johnny Depp, Dakota Johnson in Brookline for Black Mass screening “Back in August, Coolidge Corner Theatre announced that it’ll host a private screening for members of the cast in Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass, though it was mum on specifics.
The event takes place Tuesday, and representatives for the movie just confirmed that Whitey Bulger actor Johnny Depp will indeed be in attendance, as well as his costars Dakota Johnson, Julianne Nicholson, Rory Cochrane, Jesse Plemons, and David Harbour. Director Scott Cooper and Black Mass authors Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill will also make appearances.’’ (Boston.com)
