Susan Taraskiewicz left her job as a baggage supervisor at Logan airport to pick up sandwiches for her coworkers on September 13, 1992. Police found her body in the trunk of her car on September 14—23 years ago today. On the anniversary of her death, they’re once again asking the public to come forward with any information they might have about who killed her.

Susan’s mother, Marlene, told Boston.com in July that she was the first person to put up billboards for a murdered person. The practice has since become more common, with police posting billboards for Baby Doe in 50 locations throughout the state.

Marlene said tips increased after she started paying for the billboards. Even though her daughter’s killer still hasn’t been identified, she credits the billboards with keeping Susan’s story in the public consciousness for so long.

“It’s one thing to see pictures on the news, but so many people drive on that road and look at it day after day,’’ she told Boston.com. “I hope it works to help them figure out who that little girl is. If nothing else, it’ll keep her in their minds.’’

Anyone with information about Susan’s murder is encouraged to contact the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.
