Study finds Bostonians don’t like tourists very much

Wiqan Ang / The Boston Globe

Bostonians aren’t big fans of the tourists who pile into duck boats or flood downtown streets along the Freedom Trail, a new, unscientific study says.

Tell us something we don’t know.

Stratos Jets, a private air charter company, scored and ranked U.S. cities by using an algorithm to determine the number of friendly or hostile tweets toward tourists. They took tweets that had been geotagged and contained “tourist(s)’’ to generate the data.

Boston made the list as the fourth unfriendliest to outsiders, following Arlington, Texas, New York City, and Las Vegas. According to the study, Massachusetts also came in fifth place for the state most likely to outright ask tourists to “leave’’ or “go home’’ on Twitter.

Again, sounds about right.

All of that might sound harsh, but, hey, at least we’re not as mean as those New Yorkers.
