North End residents just won a seven year fight against city hall

The plan to turn Long Wharf into a tourist-friendly restaurant is dead. For now.

On Wednesday, a judge ended the seven-year legal battle by deciding the Boston Redevelopment Authority would not be allowed to build a restaurant at the tip of Long Wharf, The Boston Globe reports.

According to the Globe, the battle was between the Boston Redevelopment Authority, who wanted to build a restaurant there; or the North End residents and National Parks Service, who wanted to keep the area open to the public and commercial-free.

The decision was made after the discovery of an old map in federal archives in Philadelphia. The map detailed the ownership of the land when it was decided in the 1980’s. According to the Globe, the Boston Redevelopment Authority thought they owned the land, but had been consulting the wrong map.
