Boston police officer facing domestic violence charges

A Boston Police Officer was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of assault and battery on a household member, according to District Attorney Marian T. Ryan’s office.

The accuser came to the Tewksbury Police Department station around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday night, telling officers that Patrick McCarthy, 35, slapped her and threw her on the ground, according to Ryan’s office.

McCarthy was released on personal recognizance with conditions that he abide by a restraining order, have no contact with and not abuse the alleged victim, and possess no firearms.

He was placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the case, a BPD spokesman told The Boston Globe. The case is being investigated by the Tewskbury Police Department.
