Boston leaders hitting the streets to stop shootings

Mayor Marty Walsh said that city officials and clergy will walk the streets, talking directly to young people in the coming weeks, to try to stem the recent tide of violence.

Residents can expect to see pastors, activists and their elected officials in their neighborhoods, trying to help keep the peace, The Boston Globe reports.

“You’re going to be seeing over the course of the next two-and-a-half weeks clergy, elected officials, community leaders, walking the streets of Boston … talking to young people,’’ Walsh said.

Authorities said no specific gang activity was fueling recent violence, and added that they were in talks to revive the city’s gun buy back program.
