Wait times have been sharply cut for Logan’s international travelers

Your airport experience is about to get better—but only if you’re coming back from abroad.

Wait times to clear customs at Local Airport have been slashed, The Boston Globe reports, after federal authorities increased staffing at the international terminal in response to local pressure.

Previously, you could have waited up to three hours to get through Border Protection, but now the average maximum wait is under an hour, according to the Globe.

U.S. Senator Edward Markey and other representatives sent a letter in June to the Department of Homeland Security that didn’t hide their disappointment. Local business leaders followed suit with similar complains.

“Tourism and a wide range of industries depend on the ease of international travel to Boston,’’ the congressional representatives wrote.

With the recent additional destinations—Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dubai, Istanbul, and Tel Aviv—Logan’s international travel has increased by about 200,000 more passengers during the first five months of 2015 than the same period a year ago, according to the Globe.
