No more hot dogs, chicken nuggets at Boston schools?
Healthier food options may be on the way.
An overhaul to Boston schools’ food program may alter children’s lunch experiences at school with chicken breasts and actual fruit replacing hot dogs and fruit juice,The Boston Globereports.
The proposals created by the School Department and an advisory council include menu changes, hiring a new executive director of food and nutrition service, and considering updating kitchen facilities, according to The Globe.
Officials are currently reviewing the proposals, which were brought on in part by growing concerns from parents.
Kim Rice, assistant superintendant of operations, told The Globe that the possible menu changes “are some baby steps toward a much larger discussion in terms of how we deliver, how we provide, how we support food service.’’
