Governor Charlie Baker bought some bacon at the Public Market

Governor Charlie Baker’s family is rejoicing because dad is bringing home the bacon. Literally.

Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh were on hand to speak at the new Boston Public Market’s grand opening. The $13 million market will sell locally grown and produced food and products.

Baker did a little shopping before speaking with the press. In his green reusable shopping bag, he had a half-pound of bacon to bring home to his wife and kids, and a “great looking sandwich’’ for lunch.

Baker and Walsh left shortly after the opening ceremony, but both said they will be back later in the day to speak with farmers about their products.

“I am mostly excited that this is down the street from the State House, so I am going to visit and come to eat whenever I can,’’ Baker said.
