A notable person will be missing from the Boston Pops John Williams’ Film Night performance on August 22 — John Williams.

Williams canceled his appearances due to a back ailment that requires him to rest over the next few weeks, according to a release from Tanglewood.

The composer, who is known for creating the film scores for Jaws, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Schindler’s List and Indiana Jones, also served as the music director for nearly 80 films, including Jurassic Park and the Star Wars trilogy. He conducted the Pops from January 1980 until he retired in December 1993, but still holds the title of Artist-in-Residence at Tanglewood.
