Sorry, experts, but this huge lobster is pretty impressive

Ricky Louis Felice Jr.

Ricky Louis Felice Jr. was wowed by the 20-pound lobster his fishing crew caught.

“He was the biggest lobster I’ve seen in my life,’’ Felice told Boston.com.

But Felice’s boss was pretty underwhelmed by the crustacean.

“I’ve seen bigger ones,’’ Isaac Lash, the sea captain of the crew that hauled it in, told Boston.com. “It’s pretty cool to see them that big, but we catch them from time to time.’’

University of Maine marine biologist Robert Steneck agreed with Lash’s assessment, telling the Portland Press Herald: “It’s a good size, but it is not outrageous.’’

The ‘meh’ lobster was a three-foot-long male with a claw that appears to be about the size of Felice’s head. A photo of it went viral this week, but the shellfish was caught on May 20.

While Lash has been fishing for years, his crew caught the huge lobster on Felice’s “third or fourth’’ time out on the boat.

“I’m just glad I could return him to the sea,’’ Felice said. “So we can maybe catch him again.’’

Maine state law prevents fishermen from keeping lobsters with body shells longer than five inches. Steneck told the Press Herald that the lobster would need to be more than twice its size to truly be considered a “giant’’ one.

“No one has seen [a giant lobster] since the 1950s,’’ he told the paper. “Too bad.’’
