Police officer helps churchgoer up his game— by tying his necktie

Looking dapper enough for church took on a whole new meaning for a man in Hyde Park on Sunday morning.

Boston Police Officer Gino Fernandes says he found himself tying a necktie on a passerby after the man approached with a strip of cloth hanging limp on his shoulders.

“I told him it would increase his chances of finding a woman,’’ Fernandes told Boston.com.

Fernandes was having breakfast beside the Truman Parkway in Hyde Park when two men rushing to church asked him to help one of them out. Neither knew how to tie a tie.

“My partner said to give him a half-windsor knot and I said ‘No I’m gonna do an eldredge knot,’’’ Fernandes said. “It’s my special knot.’’

A photo of the unidentified churchgoer and Fernandes, both smiling, circulated on social media later that evening.

“I said this is something unique, let me tell my partner to take a picture,’’ Fernandes said.

“There’s a lot of these small actions going on around the city, it shows that we do more than just policing.’’
