Former Patriot Brandon Spikes pleads guilty

His car was found damaged on the side of I-495 in Foxborough. But New England Patriot Brandon Spikes wasn’t at the scene when police arrived.

All the officers knew was the driver of the car told an operator that he had hit a deer. At the same time, a family reported its Nissan Murano had been rear-ended along the same stretch of road.

Days later, Spikes was charged in connection to the hit and run. And on Wednesday, the former Patriots linebacker pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash.

The Norfolk County district attorney’s office said today that Spikes will serve one year of probation. Spikes, who was released by the Patriots within hours of the incident on June 8, will avoid conviction for negligent operation and driving an uninsured vehicle if he doesn’t violate the terms of his probation.

The three people inside the damaged Nissan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The terms of Spikes’ probation were not specified. He was sentenced at a hearing in Wrentham District Court on Wednesday.
