Man charged with rape after woman found unconscious on driveway in March
Temperatures were in the teens and nearly 100 inches of snow blanketed the ground when a girl walked outside of her uncle’s home in Everett at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. She found an 18-year-old woman unconscious and bleeding on the driveway, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office. The woman’s clothes were in disarray.
The girl called police, and the woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Her body temperature was 77 degrees, and her blood-alcohol-level was nearly three times the legal limit, according to the district attorney’s office. Medical professionals gave her a 30 percent chance of survival. She remained unconscious for two days.
Then, she woke up.
Detectives would later learn the woman was at a house party with about 40 other teenagers two streets away. Witnesses told police the woman left the party with a 19-year-old named Sami Sherif. He later came back to the party — alone.
Sherif was arrested three weeks later, on March 27.
On Monday, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said the grand jury indicted Sherif on one count of rape. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 8.
