This ‘masshole’ has been making money off the word since before it was cool
The Oxford English Dictionary just officially added the term, but one man has been selling “Masshole’’ merchandise for years
The Bay State has been using the term “masshole’’ since long before it was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary. But the Boston Business Journal reports that one man has been making money off the insult for years.
Chris Wrenn, the owner of Peabody sports apparel maker Sully’s Brand, sells “Masshole’’ emblazoned apparel, according to the Journal. This week, Oxford defined the label as the “term of contempt for: a native or inhabitant of the state of Massachusetts.’’
Those in the Bay State might actually take it as more of a term of endearment. The Journal says Wrenn reports that half of the sales of the “Masshole’’ T-shirts, sweatshirts, winter caps, snapback hats, magnets, bracelets, banners, bumper stickers, coozies, lanyards, banners, and gold nameplate necklaces are from proud Bostonians.
