Divan Silva, the 7-year-old shot in Dorchester last month, was named an honorary junior police officer Sunday by the Boston Police Department for his “tremendous bravery and courage.’’

The second-grader was hit with a stray bullet while riding his bicycle on Bowdoin Street on May 24 and was hospitalized for several days with non-life threatening wounds. A 20-year-old man also was grazed in the shooting, which was captured on video.

Police are still searching for a 5’8’’, heavyset teenage suspect.

Divan’s mother, Dijanira DeAndrade, told Fox Boston the 7-year-old is still scared of being outside.

“He’s afraid it might happen to him again,’’ DeAndrade said.

However, Divan seemed upbeat in photos and even got to wear the hat of Boston Police Superintendent in Chief William Gross.
