From Harvard Lampoon president to Veep

It didn’t take long for Alexis Wilkinson to find her place in the professional comedy world. Wilkinson, president of punchlines and the Harvard Lampoon’s first black female leader, is joining the writers table at the HBO comedy Veep just one month after graduating from the Ivy League school.

“It’s different, but not entirely unfamiliar,’’ Wilkinson told The Boston Globe of her position writing for the show, which stars Seinfeld veteran and outstanding comic Julia Louis-Dreyfus. “The writers here are all so talented and experienced. I’m learning so much.’’

Wilkinson talked to Boston.com this spring about her experiences as a comedian and the anxiety she had about finding a job despite media speculation about where she would land.

“As a writer, I can write anything,’’ she said. “But when doing stand-up, I can only tell jokes that a 20-year-old black girl would tell.’’

Write she will. Veep aired its fourth season finale on Sunday night, and was recently renewed.
