Good morning, Boston. Here’s what you need to know for the day ahead, including the fallout from a 16-year-old’s murder, Bush and Clinton gun for the presidency, and the Red Sox free fall.

Mothers, sons, and murder: “Her voice was weary, her words were heavy. Genneane Gennis had made what was probably one of the hardest decisions a mother could ever make: She turned her 16-year-old son, Dushawn Taylor-Gennis, in to police Saturday after learning he was one of two boys who allegedly shot and killed another teenager in Dorchester last week. ‘This is a hard time for me,’ Gennis told the Globe over the phone Sunday. ‘I’m going through a lot. Both families are.’’’ (The Boston Globe)

Bush and Clinton make their cases: That would be Jeb and Hillary, of course. Clinton’s candidacy was in the name of “everyone who has ever been knocked down but refused to be knocked out,’’ she said in a speech on Saturday. “I’ve been called many things by many people, quitter is not one of them.’’ (The New York Times) Jeb Bush will announce his candidacy on Monday, with more emphasis on Jeb and less on that family name. “In his speech, he will both embrace elements of his heritage and try to transcend them, portraying himself as an entrepreneurial figure who, in the Bush family way, struck out on his own, built up a real estate business and became a governor who delivered on a promise of sweeping change.’’ (The New York Times)

Never too old to learn a new trick: “In his 86 years, Fred Ezekiel escaped a massacre that killed up to 180 Jews in Baghdad, earned four degrees, became a mechanical engineering professor at MIT, raised a family, and spent 50 years worshiping at Temple Emunah. But he never had a bar mitzvah. That was until Saturday — two days after his 86th birthday.’’ (The Boston Globe)

Not The Onion: Despite a devastating drought, wealthy Californians will use all the water they please, thank you very much. (The Washington Post)

Sunday night season finales: Game of Thrones, Veep, and Silicon Valley.

That’s a lot of losses: “The Toronto Blue Jays won their 11th straight game to tie a team record, routing the Red Sox 13-5 Sunday … as the highest-scoring club in the majors completed a sweep at Fenway and sent Boston to its season-worst sixth straight loss.’’ (Boston.com)
