Woman injured at Fenway Park upgraded to ‘good’ condition

Tonya Carpenter.

Tonya Carpenter, the woman injured at Fenway Park last Friday, was upgraded from “fair’’ to “good’’ condition Thursday, according to a spokeswoman at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Carpenter was originally said to have life-threatening injuries after the barrel of a shattered bat flew into the third-baseline stands and struck her in the head. Officials delayed the game between the Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics, as Carpenter was carted out of the park by medical personnel.

She remained in serious condition through the weekend.

The Red Sox said Monday the team and the league would re-examine fan safety at ballparks.
