Boston’s First Night festivities will neglect arts

If you’re planning to ring in 2016 with Boston’s First Night celebration this New Year’s, you can expect a lot less from the celebration, especially in the way of art, The Boston Globe reports.

The city sent a letter Friday offering the gig to events and marketing company Conventures Inc. Dusty Rhodes, the company’s president, and city officials warn that planning is still in the early stages, the Globe reports, and hope to meet in the next two weeks.

But Rhodes already has some idea of how to handle First Night. According to the Globe, she said the event is too spread out and needs to be condensed, simplified, and better focused. She cited the company’s 38 years in the business as giving it “some basic instincts’’ on what works here in Boston.

“Condensed does not mean lesser,’’ she said. “There will definitely be a lovely celebration. It will be smaller, no question. It will be condensed, and that doesn’t mean it will be lesser quality.’’
