Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his friends set to be sentenced in June
Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be formally sentenced to death on June 24 at 9:30 a.m., the U.S. Attorney’s office said on Thursday.
The formal hearing will include written and verbal statements from about 20 victims and, if he so chooses, words from Tsarnaev himself.
In addition, several former friends of Tsarnaev and his brother are scheduled to be sentenced in the coming weeks for crimes related to the investigation of the bombing.
Dias Kadyrbayev, who pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiracy last August, faces up to seven years in prison and will be sentenced June 2.
Azamat Tazhayakov, who was found guilty of obstruction of justice last July, faces up to 25 years in prison and is set to sentenced June 5.
Robel Phillipos, who was convicted of two counts of lying to investigators, faces up to 16 years in prison and is also set to be sentenced June 5.
Khairullozhon Matanov, who pleaded guilty to lying to investigators in March, faces a 30-month prison sentence. He is set to be sentenced June 18.
