Mass. police: This is how hot cars with dogs left inside can get

Massachusetts State Police

With the arrival of warm weather, Massachusetts State Police have proved yet again that they know the way to the public’s hearts: cute dogs.

In a graphic on their Facebook page, State Police are showing drivers just how hot a car can get in outdoor temperatures as low as 70 degrees. The image, featuring a lapdog hanging out of a car window, shows that vehicles left closed for 30 minutes—in just 70 degree heat—can reach 104 degrees.

“Pets die every day due to lack of care and concern, from leaving them unattended in a hot vehicle. Don’t let your pet become a statistic,’’ the post says. “If you see a pet left unattended in a vehicle on a warm day, do not hesitate to call your local police department or call 911 to be connected to your local authority.’’
