Cape Cod resident leaves dentures in voting booth

Tuesday was town election day in Brewster. And while democracy can surely be arduous, voting is not something to gnash your teeth about.

Officials from the bayside Cape Cod town tweeted that a resident had left their dentures in a voting booth.

More than 28 percent of the population of Brewster — a town of nearly 10,000 — is more than 65 years old (compared to the national average of 12.4 percent). So if this was going to happen anywhere, Brewster makes sense.

J.P Ludwig, the town’s media services coordinator, and tweeters, told The Boston Globethe fake teeth were found by volunteers “making a sweep of the room.’’ He said he shares interesting and unusual stories on social media in an effort to engage Brewster’s relatively old populace.

Fortunately, the story has a happy ending. Thirty minutes before the polls closed, the town’s account tweeted that the teeth had been claimed.
