Where Bill Richard was the day Tsarnaev was sentenced to die

While a jury deliberated Friday over the fate of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Bill Richard spent time helping a student from his neighborhood with his future education, according to Bridgewater State University President Dana Mohler-Faria.

Mohler-Faria was cited on the Bridgewater State University website on Sunday.

“That’s what I mean by character,’’ he said during his commencement address Saturday. His speech focused on putting the needs of others before oneself.

Bill, along with his wife, Denise, and daughter, Jane, were called to the stage by Mohler-Faria during the ceremony. They received a standing ovation from the crowd.

It was an eventful day on-stage at the school’s commencement. Ashley Nelson, a 4.0 graduating senior, received a surprise marriage proposal during the ceremony from her boyfriend and fellow graduate Josh Tillinghast. She said yes.
