Police: Please don’t drunkenly chase a bear with a hatchet, no but seriously though

“Thanks, North Adams Police.’’ AP / The Enquirer, John Grap

“**Chasing bears through the woods drunk with a dull hatchet is strongly not advised**’’

That advice comes courtesy of the North Adams Police Department after someone did just that on Monday night.

“The North Adams Police Department is urging everyone to NOT chase bears through the woods with a dull hatchet, drunk,’’ police wrote in a Facebook post. “Yes that really did happen tonight.’’

Davy Crockett, expert bear-killer.

Police also said they “don’t need anyone going all Davy Crockett chasing it through the woods drunk with a dull hatchet.’’ (Crockett, the famed American frontiersman, said that he hunted bears with a team of attack dogs, guns, and a sharp knife.)

The “hatchet man,’’ as they called him, was taken into protective custody, and police in the northwestern part of Massachusetts are asking for any help in understanding what he was thinking.

“We are still trying to figure out what his end game was. Any thoughts on what he was going to do if he did locate it? We would certainly like to hear because we have no idea.’’
