Visitors to the Institute of Contemporary Art want more art, says director Jill Medvedow.

If the Boston Redevelopment Authority approves an expansion proposal, art lovers will get their wish.

The museum wants to add 19,000 more square feet to two new floors of space in a 17-story tower being developed across the street on Fan Pier. The buildings would likely be linked by a sky bridge, reports The Boston Globe.

The 65,000-square-foot waterfront museum, which opened in 2006, has drawn about 2 million visitors to its 17,000 square feet of galleries. The added space would add 6,000 more square feet of gallery space and room for curatorial offices, conservation, and the museum’s growing programs.

The expansion would cost $10 to $12 million, according to Medvedow.
