Breathalyzers pulled: Several Massachusetts counties suspended the use of breathalyzer tests in DUI cases. Why? “[Middlesex District Attorney Marian] Ryan said that ‘less than a dozen’ cases in the county were known to be affected by what she described as a ‘calibration issue.’ But in a statement, her office said it was informed last week that the Massachusetts State Police believes ‘the problem may go beyond those isolated cases.’’’ (Boston.com)

Ben Affleck piling-on continues: The criticism of Affleck isn’t letting up after he successfully pressed PBS to censor the fact that he had a slave-owning ancestor from a show on family history. The Boston Globe devotes two columns and a cartoon to the drama, led by a very Howie Carr-like editorial: “There should be no Oscars for this performance. Just Razzies all around. … This Cambridge homeboy needs a reality check.’’ (The Boston Globe) A leak of the show’s final script shows a fairly benign conversation about the ancestor: “This Is the Interview About His Ancestor Ben Affleck Tried to Suppress.’’ (Gawker)

Go either way on the MBTA: “MBTA to Offer Free Rides Friday as ‘Goodwill Gesture.’ The move will cost the cash-starved agency $5 million.’’ (Boston Magazine)

RIP Rosie the Riveter: Mary Doyle Keefe, the model for the famed Norman Rockwell paintings and the exemplar of 20th century female empowerment, died at 92 on Tuesday. “Ms. Keefe, who never riveted, was paid $5 for each of two mornings she posed for Rockwell and his photographer, Gene Pelham. ‘They called me again to come back because he wanted me in a blue shirt and asked if I could wear penny loafers,’ Ms. Keefe said in 2002.’’ (The Boston Globe)
