Morning Updates: MBTA, Sony Leaks, and the Patriots Schedule Unveiled

The MBTA is gearing up for big changes under Gov. Baker. The Boston Globe/Lane Turner

Choo-choo-choo changes: Six members of the seven-person board that oversees the MBTA resigned after Gov. Charlie Baker asked them to do so. (The seventh member is Transportation Secretary and Baker ally Stephanie Pollack.) “With the board under his control, Baker will be able to install new leadership and have broader latitude to help remake an agency that a panel he appointed blasted for having ‘pervasive organizational failures.’’’ (The Boston Globe)

On the schedule for today: Baker and Pollack hold a press conference on MBTA legislation at 1:15.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s middle finger: Prosecutors showed a photo of Tsarnaev flicking off a court security camera in July 2013, angering, well, everyone. “‘He told us all to (expletive) off,’ said Liz Norden, whose two sons, JP and Paul, each lost a right leg in the April 15, 2013, attacks. ‘It showed a lack of remorse, a lack of respect for the human race.’’’ (Boston Herald)

Sony leaks come to Boston: Ben Affleck issued an apology Tuesday night after emails released in the Sony leaks showed he asked a PBS show on ancestry to not talk about his slave-owning ancestor. “I was embarrassed. The very thought left a bad taste in my mouth. … I regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story.’’ (Boston.com)

Affleck buddy Matt Damon, meanwhile, is seen in the leaks under his personal email [email protected]. Why that email? “The answer lies in a Boston Phoenix interview with Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant about an overlooked 2002 film he directed starring Damon and Casey Affleck called Gerry.’’ Ok then. Mark your calendars, Patriots fans: New England hosts the Steelers on Sept. 10 to start the coming NFL season. It’ll be a season of late nights for the Super Bowl winners; the Pats play two Sunday night games, one Monday nighter, and another Thursday night game. Circle weeks 10 through 12, playing at Eli Manning and the Giants, hosting Rex Ryan and the Bills on Monday night, and then going to Denver to face Peyton Manning. (Boston.com)

The last Boston Marathon finisher: “After he was born in Caracas, Venezuela, with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, doctors told [Maickel] Melamed’s parents that he wasn’t likely to live for more than a few days. They were then told that he wouldn’t ever talk, that he wouldn’t ever walk. Now approaching his 40th birthday, he is a motivational speaker who has participated in multiple marathons.’’ (Boston.com)

**Salsa Dancer**: “The French love the heart emoji. Canadians prefer pizza—and the pile of poo. And Americans? The land that gave the world the iPhone, the Declaration of Independence, and the Kinsey Report prefers emoji that depict technology, royalty, and… eggplants.’’ (The Atlantic)
