“Strong Boston, 2013!’’ Lelisa Desisa shouted in a post-race interview after his 2015 Boston Marathon win.

The 25-year-old from Ethiopia won the 2013 marathon, but his victory was lost in the chaos after two bombs were detonated by the finish line, four hours into the race.

As a heartfelt gesture to those injured in the explosions, Desisa returned his first-place medal to the city of Boston in a public ceremony on the Common that June.
