Free Cone Day: The Quickest Path to Four Nearby Ben & Jerry’s

Today is Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops, and as such, we enlisted Google Maps in our quest to maximize our all-important ice cream efficiency.

For ice cream lovers with a car, it would take about 17 minutes to drive to the four Ben & Jerry’s stores in the Boston area. Starting at the Ben & Jerry’s in Harvard Square, drive into the city to the Shops at the Prudential Center, and then over to Newbury Street, and finally to 20 Park Plaza.

You’re welcome.

As for those using public transportation, we recommend taking the 1 Bus from Harvard into Back Bay and then walking between the three inner-city Ben & Jerry’s shops. Google Maps will tell you taking the Red Line to the Green Line is fastest, but we have our doubts.

There will likely be lengthy lines when the deal begins at noon. Going early is a solid option. You may also choose to leave co-conspirators and/or hungry children at shops in succession, and then loop back around to pick them up.

Of course, you could also just stick to one shop and get back in line again and again. But then you’d miss the adventure of an ice cream road trip.

Correction: We originally wrote that there were six Ben & Jerry’s shops in the area. However, the shop at the Aquarium is currently closed, and the shop in Revere is not participating in Free Cone Day. We apologize for the error.
