Dic Donohue Donates Blood for the First Time, Two Years After Marathon Shooting
Richard “Dic’’ Donohue, the MBTA officer who was shot during a firefight between police and the two Boston Marathon bombers, donated blood for the first time today.
Almost two years ago in Watertown, a bullet hit Donohue near his right groin, severing his femoral artery. He needed 46 units of blood to survive his surgery two years ago.

Donohue told Boston.com earlier this week that he was going to “pay it forward’’ at the Red Cross blood drive.
“I have a renewed appreciation for life, and for the things are given to me,’’ he said.
