The penalty phase in the trial of convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will begin Tuesday, April 21, the day after the 2015 Boston Marathon, the United States District Attorney’s Office announced.

During the penalty phase, the same jury that found Tsarnaev guilty on all 30 counts against him on Wednesday will determine whether he will be sentenced to death or to live out the rest of his life in prison.

It is common for there to be a break between the two phases in a capital case, according to a court order.

The jury will return to court on April 14, however, for brief logistical and scheduling instructions from the court.
