Newspapers argue Tsarnaev punishment

Should he live or die?

Newspapers across the nation are reacting to the news that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty of all 30 charges he faced in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings. Now the trial enters the sentencing phase where the same jurors will decide Tsarnaev’s fate.

The question on everyone’s mind, echoed on the front pages of newspapers across the country, is summed up on USA Today’s front page: “Now the real question: Should he die?’’

The New York Post talked to people who felt Tsarnaev should die.

A Boston Globe editorial says Tsarnaev should live.

The paper chose to highlight the victims and survivors on its front page today, portraying images of the four people killed and 17 people who lost limbs from the blasts. Its editorial says, in part, “His defense has already made a good case that he does not meet the exceptionally high standards for a federal execution.’’

The Boston Herald focused on survivor Mery Daniel. Daniel, 33, from Mattapan, lost her left leg in the bombings.

The Herald’s editorial, “No mercy for Tsarnaev,’’ says, in part, “May this jury show him as little mercy as he showed the victims whose lives he so callously took.’’
