White women in Boston make 83 cents for every dollar that men make, according to the city of Boston. The gap is even worse for women of color, according to a Boston Globereport.

Mayor Marty Walsh announced that the city will soon analyze the wages of male and female employees at more than 60 local companies to address the gender wage gap. Walsh has already taken steps toward narrowing the gap by giving raises to two women on his staff — Joyce Linehan, his chief of policy, and Laura Oggeri, the mayor’s spokeswoman.

The salary data released from companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Putnam Investments will be kept anonymous. The city will make the information public this summer.
