Report on MBTA Will Call for Cost Containment, Not Funding
A report that outlines cost containment strategies for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is set to be released this week, according to a report by The Boston Globe. The report was put together by a panel tasked by Governor Charlie Baker to identify the transportation agency’s problems.
According to The Globe, which had access to a portion of the report, the panel found fault with the agency’s “high maintenance costs,’’ “limited cost control,’’ and “low labor productivity.’’ The report will not include funding requests for the Legislature, though it states that the operating costs for the agency are growing by 5.25 percent per year, according to The Globe.
