Man Pleads Not Guilty in Duffel Bag Human Remains Case, Is Held on $1 Million Bail

A Cambridge man pleaded not guilty Monday at his arraignment on charges related to the discovery of human remains inside a duffel bag.

Carlos Colina, 32, is being held on $1 million cash bail. He is charged with being an accessory after the fact to assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, and improper disposal of a body.

The victim was identified Monday as Jonathan Camilien, 26.

His remains were found Saturday morning on Loughery Way, near the headquarters of biotech firm Biogen.

No murder charges have been filed in the case.

Officials said video surveillance of the area near where the bag was dropped led them to an apartment complex where additional human remains were found.

Colina was kept out of view from those in the courtroom during his arraignment.

People seated in the courtroom changed seats and craned their necks trying to get a look at the defendant.

Colina’s attorney, John H. Cunha told reporters the he chose to keep his client out of view “because I’m not interested in a three-ring circus.’’

The judge scheduled an April 14 pretrial hearing.

Correction: Cambridge police initially reported Camilien’s age as 34.
