Here’s What a Moose Will Do to Your Car

Next time you see a moose crossing sign, you may want to heed the warning.

Olivia Bouchard, a 19-year-old from Greenville, Maine, hit a moose Sunday afternoon in northern Maine (like, as far north as Quebec City), and this is what it did to her 2000 Subaru Legacy, according to Maine State Police.

Bouchard sustained numerous cuts, but luckily nothing worse. (No word on the moose.)

According to the Maine Department of Transporation, over 400 drivers strike moose in the state each year, and from 2009-2013, six people died in such collisions.

Many people think if you’re unable to avoid a moose, you’re supposed to accelerate into it — thus, launching it over your car. However, MythBusters proved this notion wrong and determined drivers should, in fact, hit the brakes.
