Anti-Semitic Drawings Found in Local College Dorm
A mezuzah was also desecrated at an off-campus apartment.
Swastikas were drawn on a dry-erase board inside a Northeastern University dorm over the weekend, according to the university’s president.
The anti-Semitic symbols were found early Sunday morning – less than a week before Passover – in the dorm’s common area, President Joseph Aoun said in a statement.
“I condemn this hateful act of anti-Semitism in the strongest possible terms,’’ he said. “These actions are completely antithetical to the values of our university and all that we stand for.’’
Aoun said university police are “actively investigating’’ the drawings.
In a second incident over the weekend, a mezuzah was desecrated at an off-campus apartment, in a building inhabited mostly by Northeastern students, according to the university’s Hillel executive director, Arinne Braverman. The Hillel has purchased more mezuzot for students to display, she said.
A number of other student groups on campus have condemned the incidents as well.
Earlier this academic year, swastikas were drawn on two fliers at Northeastern promoting a talk by an Israeli military official, according to The Boston Globe.
