A 19-year-old Watertown man was arrested Wednesday outside Milton High School with a loaded handgun, drugs, alcohol, and a “significant’’ amount of cash, according to police.

Despite the firearm, he “had no intention to harm anyone,’’ and “at NO TIME was any student or staff member in danger,’’ police said in a statement on Facebook.

Jonathan E. Villagran was taken into custody shortly after 2 p.m., Milton Police Chief Richard Wells told The Boston Globe.

Police said Villagran attempted to enter the school prior to his arrest but was turned away, as staff knew he wasn’t a student. School staff then notified police, who found Villagran nearby.

The school was locked down during the incident, and a “full protective sweep’’ was completed, according to police.

Villagran is being held at the Milton Police Department on $100,000 bail on weapons, narcotics, and other charges, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Quincy District Court.
