A 23-year-old New Hampshire man died Saturday afternoon after he crashed into several trees at Killington Ski Resort in Vermont.

Terrence K. Scott, of Nashua, New Hampshire, was visiting the resort with family and friends, who described him as an “expert skiier,’’ according to Vermont State Police spokesperson Scott Waterman.

Moving at fast speeds on the intermediate-level High Road Trail, Scott avoided colliding with another skiier while trying to turn onto a connector trail. He then lost control and crashed into “multiple trees,’’ police said. His helmet fell off in the process. The other skiier has not been identified.

Scott was treated at the scene by an EMT, a doctor, and a nurse. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the resort at 1:55 p.m., police said.

The incident is under investigation by the Vermont State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Also on Saturday, seven people were injured when the King Pine ski lift at Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Maine suddenly reversed direction. Three people were hospitalized with non-serious injuries. The resort blamed the accident on a “major mechnical failure.’’

This isn’t the region’s first skiing fatality this season. On March 9, Samuel Moore, 34, of North Conway, New Hampshire, died after losing control and suffering a 60-foot fall at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire. Moore was participating in a Make-A-Wish fundraising event at the resort that morning.
