Winchester Police Investigating ‘Hit List’ at High School
Winchester Police are investigating a “hit list’’ at the town’s high school, according to a Friday email to parents, obtained by Boston.com sports blogger Bill Speros, @realOBF on Twitter.
Police confirmed, via a statement Friday night, that a Winchester High student allegedly made a threat “against some of his classmates.’’ Police said a school resource officer was contacted by a staff member Friday afternoon after a student, in a conversation with a school service provider, made a reference to “a specific list of students that he may wish to harm.’’
The families of students on the list were then contacted by police “out of an abundance of caution,’’ police said.
The investigation is ongoing, but police said “there does not appear to be any widespread threat against the school, faculty, staff, or other students.’’
The email to parents from the Winchester Public Schools:
We are issuing a statement that there was an incident today at the high school in which staff learned about a so-called “hit list.’’ The author of the list has been identified and the Winchester Police and Public Schools are working together to address this matter. When school resumes on Monday, we will be taking steps to address not only safety but also emotional needs of students, parents and staff. As always, the safety of our students is of utmost importance to us. We will look forward to seeing your child on Monday.
