Somerville School Closing For Month Following Roof Collapse

A Somerville elementary school will be closed for a month after a roof collapse there filled a girl’s bathroom with snow and prompted concerns about the building’s structural integrity.

Brown Elementary School, near Ball Square, was surrounded by yellow caution tape late Tuesday, WHDH reports.

An email to parents advised that kindergarteners would temporarily attend Capuano Early Childhood Center, with other students in grades 1-6 attending Edgerly and East Somerville Community School. For now, classes remained canceled through Thursday for the school’s 200 students.

Engineers continued to investigate the cause of the collapse, a city spokesperson told the Boston Globe. No one was injured or inside of the building at the time, she added.
