Charlestown Lawyer Charged with Kidnapping Girl, 12, He Met Online
A Charlestown lawyer faces charges related to the kidnapping of a 12-year-old Lancaster girl, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Robert D. Smith, 38 was arrested last weekend and arraigned in Clinton District Court on charges of kidnapping and enticement of a child. He first made contact with the victim online, authorities said. The girl was later returned.
Smith was released on $10,000 bail on Monday. Judge Robert W. Gardner Jr. ordered that he be placed under house arrest and wear a GPS monitoring device.
The judge also ordered Smith not to access the Internet and not to have contact with the victim or children under the age of 16, except for his three children.
The case, which will continue April 13, was investigated by State Police assigned to the DA’s office.
