A grand jury indicted Julio Resto, 51, of Waltham, on charges of first degree murder and assault by means of a dangerous weapon (seven counts) in connection with the December stabbing death of his wife, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office said Wednesday.

Officials said that at about 5:17 a.m. on December 31, 2014, Resto arrived at the Waltham police station and began banging on the door leading to the dispatch area. His clothes appeared to have blood on them, as did the knife he was holding in his hand, according to authorities.

Resto allegedly told police that he had just killed his wife. When officers tried to arrest him, he allegedly “lunged’’ at them with the knife, leading officers to subdue him with a “less lethal force weapon,’’ according to the DA’s statement.

Authorities then went to Resto’s apartment unit at 204 Clockwater Drive in Waltham, where they found his wife, Gloria Resto, 42, dead.

“Those who loved Gloria Resto will be mourning her loss for the rest of their lives,’’ Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement. “They are still shaken to the core to think that her violent death was allegedly at the hands of her own husband.’’

Resto is currently being held without bail and will continue to be until his arraignment March 3.
