2 Dead in Waltham Fire
A mother and her son were killed on Monday after an early-morning fire broke out in their Waltham home.
The son, who was 50 years old according to WCVB, was found dead at the scene. His 76-year-old mother died at a local hospital. A firefighter suffered a “minor burn’’ to his hand, Fox 25 reported.
Waltham Fire Chief Paul Ciccone told reporters at the scene that the extremely cold weather and snow made fighting the fire more difficult, but that fire hydrants close to the home had been dug out. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Neither victim’s name has been released, pending notification of their next of kin. The Boston Herald reported that neighbors called the woman and her son, who had recently moved back home to help care for his mother, a “fixture’’ in the neighborhood.
“They were great people and they will be missed,’’ said one neighbor.
