Baker: Stay Off the Roads

Even though the snow continued to slow as he spoke, Governor Charlie Baker said his basic message to residents remains the same.

“Stay off the roads,’’ he said at his noon press conference Sunday.

Baker said he would continue to coordinate snow removal efforts with the MBTA through Sunday into Monday. He said news about T’s Monday service is expected from the transportation agency later Sunday.

Baker echoed concerns expressed by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh earlier in the day about the impact of the snow and ice on roofs.

“We’ve seen four roof collapses today,’’ he said.

Like Walsh, he also reminded residents to keep heating vents and tail pipes clear.

Baker expressed relief about the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, saying he expected it would mean less people on the roads, which would allow crews to continue to “dig out and clean out.’’

“Tomorrow we get in the business of removal and disposal,’’ he said.

He ended his statement on a hopeful note.

“It’s 58 days until opening day at Fenway Park,’’ he said.
