Don’t call it a “cronut.’’ It’ll be here for years.

Dunkin’ Donuts is here with news that may both make your day and destroy your progress at the gym.

In a press release today, Dunkin’ Donuts announced that their croissant donuts will receive a permanent place on menus across the country.

Having sold 8.5 million croissant donuts since their introduction last November as a limited time offer, the “delicate and flaky croissant ring glazed like a donut’’ is here to stay, thanks to popular demand.

Dunkin’ Brands’ President of Global Marketing and Innovation John Costello said that “the Croissant Donut received an overwhelmingly positive response from our guests, and we are thrilled to make it a permanent menu item,’’ before hinting at new spins on the menu item. “With Dunkin’ Donuts’ unrivaled donut heritage,’’ Costello stated that he was excited about “seeing what our Culinary Team comes up with.’’

The answer to Costello’s open question from the culinary team is in: stick some sweet, sugary cream in it.

New versions of the treat are already on the way, as the press release also states that March will bring new croissant donut flavors. The Boston Kreme Croissant Donut, “a Croissant Donut filled with Bavarian Kreme and drizzled with chocolate icing,’’ will be available at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants throughout Monmouth and Ocean County, New Jersey.
