Billerica Firefighter Dies in Snowmobile Accident
Billerica firefighter David Silva, 39, died in a snowmobile accident Thursday in New Hampshire, according to the Billerica Fire Department.
Silva was riding a snowmobile in North Stratford on Thursday evening when he missed a corner and crashed into a tree, according to the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game. One of his companions went to get help while another stayed, but Silva died on scene due to severe injuries, according to the department. The crash site, nearly five miles into the woods from the nearest plowed road, was only accessible by snowmobile.
Silva had been a firefighter since 2000 and served as Billerica’s Student Awareness of Fire Education and Senior Awareness of Fire Safety Instructor.
